i like the fact that the bottoms are not cut out on the top ones, i do not like the fact that it does not have any of the sealant around the top water port.

If you want better head cooling, use the bottom one. The upper on looks like 7.3 specific; restricted cooling holes.
Of course, you could always enlarge the cooling passage in the upper one.

So which brand is which? This is a question I have been researching myself for when I replace the hg's and install studs on my truck. This seems to have been much debated in this forum and others, and I was going to ask you what hg's you were using but you beat me to it. Lots of varied opinions out there as to which hg is best, so it will be interesting to see the responses. And since you opened this subject up for discussion, are you using any sealant, like hylomar, or installing them dry? Carry on with the good work!

I vote for felpro. They make great products and am really impressed with their head gaskets for these engines. Bought a second set for my reman. They are also slightly thicker than victor reinz.

LOL Not a problem - just ship 'em when you can-I know you are busy!

I have read some mixed reviews on the Fel-Pros for the IDI, but read enough and everything has mixed reviews. So, the bottoms are the Fel-Pros - Are they 7.3 specific or are they 6.9 gaskets? Part Number? I like the idea of being able to use the coolant passages in the heads that are already there and just blocked off.

Gary wrote about this 6.9 gasket size deal somewhere, my 88 would spike heat "pdfq" towing hills, this would be my deciding factor as to the flow if it does not have any bearing on sealing quality.
Or cutting out the restriction on the 7.3 units.
