Ok, getting everything back together. Obviously I haven't hooked up a few things, like the wires to the cold advance solenoid, and the two on the ip itself. I'm wanting to make sure I'm not overlooking anything dumb and have my engine run away on me. Mainly, I have not put anything on the drivers side of the ip, as far as I know all the stuff over there that were on my previous two pumps were for the E4DOA and C-6. I have had my little sister press the fuel pedal several times and it all operates as it should, pretty soon I'll try to fire it up as long as I'm not missing anything big.

make sure you hook up your throttle return springs. i forgot one time and was very surprised upon startup...revved up high. also plug in your wires...otherwise it looks fine to me.

it cant run away if the pump is good and you dont have vapors to suck into the intake. the pump will only let it run the the governor.

Your pump looks fine to me. I even see the throttle return spring attached properly but... The return line off the top of the pump is wrong. These motors had a steel 3/8 inch line running down the drivers side of the intake manifold... Yours is missing and I'm questioning if the return lines can handle the flow from the pump too.:dunno

Nope, no holes in the intake. If you're seeing the spot I'm seeing thats just a drop of motor oil.

This is an 85 motor, and if I'm remembering correctly it did have that hard line that has been talked about. I have only done a few thousand miles with this engine, but had no leaks or any evidence of anything amiss.

how long to prime ip?

I've probably got 4 minutes cranking this thing, 10-15 seconds at a time with a few minutes in between each. Its cranking fast, batteries on charger. Still am getting no fuel at the injectors. I know the ip holds a lot of fuel, but this seems a bit extreme. How long should it take? I know I've got fuel at the ip inlet.

You should leave the fuel return from the pump, disconnected, until you have fuel comming out there. The cold advance needs to be connected for this to happen as well. Once you have fuel there, then you know the pump is full, and you can expect fuel at the injectors. You should have the pump at full throttle, and after cranking, should crack each injector line and listen for a little ...pfftttt... of air and then re-snug. This will confirm the pump is pushing fuel out the injectors. You will have to keep doing this cycle, until instead of the ...pfftttt.. you have bubbles and fuel.

Looks good to me. I am in the process of trying to get mine primed right now.

Just curious, but have you guys pulled the GPs out of the Heads while your cranking it? The engine will spin quite a bit faster and then you just have to look for the mis of fuel puffing out the GP hole and you know your all set, installl the GPs again cycle them once or twice and she should fire right off.

TWeatherford, I had the same problem on mine until i pulled the gps and let it spin real fast, the reason i came up with was the batts werent holding enough charge to crank the engine over fast enough to start. Cause like you said you have the Fuel at the inlet but not the injectors, this is the same thing i had going on with mine.

Hope this helps some.

Thanks for the suggestion Agnem. I am doing everything else as you suggest. When I went to pull the ip return line off, fuel started coming out, so I figure the pump has to be full of fuel. I've got about 1-2 minutes added up now of cranking since then, absolutely not a drip of fuel at the injectors. I can't see why it would take so long. I'm about ready to pull this pump off and swap the one thats still bolted to my old motor. I have checked and double checked the fuel shutoff solenoid, I get good loud clicks every time.

I have not pulled the glowplugs. I don't really want to go to that much effort. I do have a battery charger on it and its cranking over real fast, so I don't think thats the problem.

I have a brand new pump and I am having the same problems you are. I think patience and persistence are what is going to win the war.
