what should i grab from an idi engine that is being parted out?

just as the title says.


my friends a few 7.3L idi's laying around. he asked me if i needed anything. says he has 3 blocks and numerous parts.


any recommendations on things that would ne nice to have as a spare. even something to use as a core.

Typ4 would love to get the cams and I'm sure the ip would be nice to have a spare to rebuild a head of time and the gp harness I would love a nice one as the previous owner of my rig took it on an very deep swim and the oil coolers would be nice and maybe a set of heads

i think i will see if he has a good gp controler. would be nice to have a working gp controler.

shoot i should just get an engine to tear down and see what the insides of one of these look like.

I'd grab everything in the fuel system( ip injectors lines)
Oil cooler, starter if t was in decent shape. GP controller and the whole wiring harness to go with it.
I'd also grab the whole under hood wiring harness. I've had to fix mine 3 times already.

Grab the engine, everything from the oilpan up should be almost enough.

If one of the blocks is a turbo block get the rods. The turbo rods wrist pin is 33mm where the non turbo wrist pin is 28mm. Also the heads on the turbo block if oem have inconel exhaust valves in them. Very good material for the heat from the added turbo. Look at the oil ports. If they are 1/8th inch pipe threads the block is a non turbo. If they are 1/4 inch the block is a turbo block. Only one way to know for sure if the turbo block actually has turbo rods in it is to remove them and compare to non turbo rods,

I would say vac. pump and water pump. Alternator too if all the accessories are still there.

X2 for the injection lines. Never know when one of those ****** is going to break on you. And its no fun to pay big $ at the stealership and still have to wait for one to arrive.

I stripped EVERYTHING, I pulled the piston oil jets, all the internal bolts, pistons, crank, rod, heads, cam, pumps,gears,all the accessories and bearing caps. All that was the block.

I'd grab the whole engine. Everytime I strip something and scrap the rest a week or so later I end up needing what I let go
