1985 F-350 Diesel original factory alternator.
Screw-mounted, on top of the alternator, is a fat black plastic cylinder that the two wires of the alternator pass through, as in the wires are molded into this black gizmo, one medium-fat wire and one skinny wire.
What purpose does this gizmo serve??, fusible-link ??, strain-relief ??
Also, what purpose does each of the wires serve ??
I assume the fattest wire is the battery-positive feed, right ??
I am in the process of improving and cleaning up the factory wiring mess and providing a BIG FAT charge-wire, getting ready for the day that I install a more powerful alternator.
Thanks.
