The return line on the top of the IP is only going to give you fuel if the motor is cold or the cold advance is disconnected. If your getting fuel at the pump inlet, then your inlet screen might be clogged.

It's in the nosecone of the IP. Not exactly a user serviceable part.

As has been posted about the nose cone filter... Its nearly impossible to change or clean while the pump is on the motor... So lets not open up that can o worms yet. Try this... On top of the injection pump there is the return line. Remove the fitting so you can see into the pump. Actually its a fitting in a fitting. Now let the electric pump push fuel to the pump. If you don't see fuel then something is blocking the flow. Then remove the filter discharge line and try to pump fuel thru the filter. Catch what comes out in a clear glass jar. Look for "stuff" that looks like goo or red rust. Post back what you find...

took the filter head completely off and checked it over real good and nothing blocking that---the line from the filter head to the ip is clear also. looking into the nosecone of my spare ip, i see what looks to be a tiny pinhole, where the fuel must go in, is that correct? Anyway, put it back together and turned on the pump and it does drip out the overflow on the top of the ip, then had to put it on the block heater(down here in 95degree heat) in order to start it, it will start but it just barely runs.
