Im quite interested in this post, and to see what the out come is. I just installed a freshly rebuilt pump back in april. and am having identical issues. ive got the timing set to 7.5 btdc. my egts are around 900 - 950 pulling a hill empty in fith gear. i was going to turn the fuel down two flats. I thought it might be my turbo needing a rebuild and not spooling up the way it should. i can get 8 psi of boost but only if at the very end of the rev. like at 55-60 mph in 4th gear. and i can only hit 8 psi in fith gear if im going highway speed like 70 75 mph. so my assumption is if my turbo was working the way it should it would only smoke a little until my turbo spooled up. Thats just a guess though. maybe your having the same issues and your turbo isnt at 100 percent.

OLDBULL8 whats the difference between the torque screw in your picture, than the fuel screw behind the plate on the side of the pump. Thats how i have always adjusted the fuel was using the allen wrench behind that plate. is the torque screw a better way to adjust

I've discovered after much farting around with my adjustments the past couple of years that timing is very critical. Also, outside air temp makes a hugh difference in power, at least in my dramatic climate it does.
I probably wouldnt be so quick to condemn your turbo, fuel and timing have to be in that sweet spot. I have had that sweet spot before and man what a difference it makes.

I'm Not an IP expert by any means. Some IP's were made with a torque screw for the different years and configuration of the engines, why I don't know. If you have a torque screw on the IP, then according to ATS you can adjust it there, otherwise you have to use the fuel screw.

It's really NOT a torque screw. It's a low RPM fuel trim. It was added for emmisions. It limits fuel delivery below 1200 rpm or so, to cut down on unburned fuel cyling thru the engine.

That sounds about right to me. You either turn it all the way in or out and you then have the equivalent of an IP without a torque screw.

I like my 93 factory turbo. I think cause of the torque screw, you can just sort of drop the hammer more like in a big rig and the IP kind of adjusts the fuel for you as you accelerate through a gear.
