Turbo Installed.....

Hey guys I just got done installing the Banks turbo in my pickup. Thanks for all the help and suggestions. I am going to a shop to get the crossover pipe connected properly (yeah, I couldnt make it fit and chopped it.....) and welded since right now it has flexible pipe holding it together. I also need to get the pipes put on while its there.....

I started it up tonight and let it idle for a few minutes and it seemed to run a LITTLE rougher than normal. Is that normal initially? Granted it has sat unused for a few weeks so maybe that is part of it. Should I be worried about running it without any exhaust after the downpipe? I am waiting on the rest of the exhaust in the mail.....

Any thoughts and tips about being a new turbo guy are welcome!!!!

Oh and I havent turned up the fuel yet.....it was dark and my wife wanted me to be done since I havent seen her ALL weekend.....

If it were me i would forget about the wife...turn that fuel screw and take that truck for a drive to see how it feels with a turbo...but thats just me.

Oh and sorry i dont have any thoughts or tips for you....im just a n/a guy that is dreaming of the day i get to drive my truck with a turbo.

Do you have gauges installed as well? If so, what gauges? I still wouldnt touch the fuel screw until I had a pyro. Just enjoy your new turbo IDI

I have had a pyro for awhile now and just got to plumb the line for the boost guage. I installed both during the summer in anticiaption of the turbo.....

Smart man. You'll see the reduced EGT's and be able to measure the boost right away. Enjoy!

mine ran rough when i first got the turbo on but i cracked the fuel system open and got some air in it. i ran around for the first day or two with just the down pipe, beside the local law enforcment and possible fumes its not a problem. man did it sounds good that way, big turbo wistle and a hell of a rumble!

make sure you have no exhaust leaks pre turbo, beside the fumes it kills boost and power. once you make sure that is good and the pressure side is sealed crank the fuel a couple of flats and have some fun. mine took two flats and i am happy, i can peg the pyro around 1100-1200 when i try hard then it levels off so it works for me.

I plan on getting the boost guage plumbed in today and then taking it to a exhaust shop in the next week to get the Banks exhaust installed.

Does anyone have any direct input on how the Banks exhaust performs compared to a straight pipe or another option?

A 4 inch mandrel bent straight pipe will out perform any Banks exhaust. I ran a complete Banks exhaust system and changed to 4 inch straight pipe. With no back pressure on the exhaust I spool up faster and the pyro drops quicker when its hot. The sound is fine but when you are pulling heavy its noiser but any motor thats pulling heavy up a grade will have a louder exhaust note cause its working. P.S... The turbo whistle is really clear with a straight pipe.

I got the exhaust as a package deal with my turbo and its coming via UPS.....but I can always dump it if its not up to *****.
