I recently installed a non-waste gated banks turbo on my 1990 7.3l. After the installation was complete a grinding or very strong vibration rattles the truck. i don't know if it is the turbo going out or just something rattling around. Any help appreciated.
Thank You

Is your downpipe hitting up against the firewall?

And does it do it all the time, or at certain rpm's?

At idle and not under a load. Strangely when i'm turning left it worsens. The down pipe is touching the firewall but the hot pipe is like being crushed by the cab as well.

Time to take something and clearance it back a little bit. I'm pretty sure this is what is causing it. If it isnt, then you havent wasted your time as its good to clearance it anyways.

its probably the downpipe hitting. i had to drop my trans down(remove crossmember) to be able to remove and replace my downpipe. while it was down i was able to get a metabo in there to cut a few slits in the joint of te fire wall. made it much easier to bend out of the way with a pair of vice grips.

I had this same turbo on my last truck and I would be willing to bet that it's your pipe rubbing the firewall. If your motor mounts are worn a little bit, that too is going to cause movement with the pipe up against the firewall. You mentioned you hear it at idle, there is probably more "shake" or movement in the motor at idle then when running at a higher RPM.

You gotta bend the lip on the firewall seam out of the way. The installation instructions from Banks and ATS both require it.

I have the installation and parts manual for the Banks Turbo in a PDF file. Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll send it to you if you want.
