How do you tell the difference in a turbo dmf and a non turbo dmf? I bought a 94 I am using for parts on my 91. The 94 originally was a turbo. The motor was replaced with a jasper and the original owner said the turbo motor was almost $1,000 more than a N/A. It was a farm truck and he said he didn't need the turbo. Now I want the transmission and clutch and flywheel for my 91. The dmf off of the 94 says valeo and ford stamped on the back. How can I tell if this is balanced for turbo or not ?

Correct me if I'm wrong but since when were there different flywheels for turbo and non-turbo trucks? Yes there are changes internally for the turbo engines but i wouldn't see a different flywheel for the same trans?

Different reciprocating weights between the turbo and non turbo require different balance weights on the flywheel.

I wish I knew what engine and flywheel he put in there. If it is his original flywheel then it is a turbo engine. But I don't know if he changed the flywheel when he changed the engine.

I think I found the serial number. Drivers side next to inj. pump on block. # 73D/U2U5199341. What ya's think, turbo or not? Also a jasper tag on the bottom drivers side just above the oil pan.

A non turbo block has 1/8 inch main oil galley ports. A turbo block has 1/4 inch ports. The non turbo 7.3 engines stamped serail numbers are 509,097 and go up to 1,116,330. Anything above that is a turbo 7.3 block but wait just a minute..... The only way you can actually determine if you have a turbo engine you have to know what exhaust valves are in it and if it has the larger wrist pins at 33mm compared to the non turbo pins at 28mm. Just to mess with everyone I have a turbo engine but its serial numbers tell anyone looking at them that its a non turbo block so it really can't be called a turbo 7.3... Even when you see a turbo on any 7.3 you really don't know if its a turbo engine. You have to know whats inside to know for sure. Reading my signiture tells most everything anyone wants to know about my engine. If asked a question I will answer anything. Now don't start asking me what the hp and torque is because I have not dynoed it. May never dyno it either. It runs.. Its powerful.. It gets the job done.. Numbers are ego in my oppinion. Honestly if I had numbers they would be posted here. I have never tried to hide anything I do. I have several viedos up for all to learn from and enjoy. I try to take away the mystic of these very simple engines. At this time I'm actually having brake issues. If I hit em hard in a panic stop the rears lock up but its only for about 1/2 a second. Then the truck continues to move forwards like I have no brakes. The peddle is hard too and not near the floor either. I'm thinking its in the rabs valve and about ready to remove it. So you see I do have some things that are not correct and would like to fix the issues...

Ok upon further inspection, I found a block casting number ending in c3. The oil ports? Not sure where to check. The hole for the oil pressure sending unit is 1/8". I also think the #1 at the end of the serial number is something like a *
