Truck is getting bedlined over the weekend

I'm using Durabak in a dark gray to bedline the whole truck. I got this old truck about a yr ago and have since put about 25k on it, couple of pics when I got it and slowly working the bugs out, but she is a runner now.Will post some as the bed lining process starts. Hope to have it done by Monday.

You're doing the entire truck? As in basically repainting it with Durabak?

I've been thinking about painting my roof on the van with some sort of bed liner material to try to stop rust once and for all.

Yea, painting the whole trucks exterior in bedliner. The few rust holes I have on the cab are getting cut out, then covered in fiberglass, then bedliner.

I'm using the gritty dark gray non-uv durabak. I went non- uv because i want the bedliner to go"flat" or have the flat dark gray look. If it does like my last truck I put in on (2001) it should lose its shine a couple months or so.

Nice, I was thinking that the rough/gritty stuff would look more bedliner'esk, but wanted to ask first. Definitely post some pictures when you're finished. I seen a newer dodge today that was full body bedliner, but it was the smooth - flat black stuff. It basically looked like a primer black truck from anywhere beyond 20 ft. The gritty stuff definitely would've looked better in that case.

Damn, there's alot of sheetmetal to sand on crewcab!! Got the rust holes cut out and fiberglassed/bondo over it. One of the PO's had a cheap paint job put on it and its a PITA getting it sanded down, but we're getting there. Got my 15 yr old son helping/learning . Durabak will be on tomorrow, will post up pics.

Salt: are you applying the liner or professionally done?

Definitely interested in seeing end result pics. My truck needs a paint job. I've been contemplating weather to liner the whole truck like you or get a mid level paint job on it. How much $$ do you think you'll have in the liner?

I bought 3 gallons of the grey non UV @ 89.95 per gallon(they're recommendation). With shipping from NJ to Tx via fedex ground, total 329.00.The non-UV will start out shiny, then over time turn flat, which is what I want. They have a UV protected for 119.00 to 139.00 per gallon.
Can be sprayed on or put on with a roller, I have always used a roller.They send roller pads to use, just got buy the handle. To prep the truck I sanded with 80 grit, the body work - I basically roughed in, washed the truck, wiped it down with Xylene, started applying.
Durabak covers thick and hides alot. For example the holes in the cowling where the wipers are, I am going to have remove and drill all those little holes out..the bedliner is filling those in.
I was able to get 1 gallon on tonight before dark, it covered everything but the roof and the inside of the bed with 2 coats.

Sounds like you're moving along nicely. Look forward to seeing those pics. How many coats do you figure will be on there when your done with all 3 gallons? And how long does each coat take to dry. Take care, bud.

Takes about an hour to dry for a recoat, still not sure on # of coats total yet. I know the inside of the bed will take quite abit. I am going to put on several coats for the grill,hood and roof area, due to the abuse those areas take from wind.

How do you apply thus stuff for those tight areas a roller won't go?
My truck has a worn out rhino liner in the bed. Any idea if I could apply this Durabak over the top of this liner?

wmoguy- for the tight areas where the roller will not work, use a reqular paint brush and "dab" the liner in place. I use the cheap throw aways in a 2" wide brush myself.
On over coating the Rhino- I dont see why it would not work, just make sure its clean before application. Best to ask Durabak to see. They have always been helpful and answered all my questions.
I Do Know this- Where long sleeves and high cuff plastic gloves when applying this stuff or ya might be wearing it awhile---learned that the hard way my first time using it
