Ebay had them nv4500 nv5600 zf5-6 and a few more transmission about 170 for two but I would like to find the black ones seams like the would transfer heat better, but the aluminum would hold about 1qt more fluid each so it's a toss up for me.

I couldn't see color affecting heat dissipation unless it was in sunlight. Might do a trans temp gauge and those heat sinks when I get my axle and clutch done

While I am no expert in this field, I have to play devil's advocate. There is a least one working example of a ZF6 placed behind an IDI by "Jaybee". It has inspired me to eventually ditch my E4OD for the 6 speed, as I would prefer a manual and I like the 6's ratios. The caveat being if you want to have 4x4 then you need to source both ZF6 and NV271/273 transfer case as the OBS BW1356 does not bolt up. Check out this thread ZF-6 behind an IDI and also Standard Transmissions What you need to know to decide if the 5 or 6 is what you want.

Jasper right if it's not bolt on then I don't want the hassle of it would be nice but my job has me working 70 to 90 hours a week very little down time

Exactly.
That's why I said the zf6 won't more.
And it's not worth the hassle over the zf5. All the 6 really gets you is a granny low gear.
