torque converter bolts

OK so I have heard remove the starter turn the engine with a ratchet and socket till the bolts line up to remove them. It ain't working with me...are y'all using a short wrench or does it have to be just so so for it to line up? Need to remove these cause its the only thing left before I pull this junky 7.3...

Do you realize that you turn the engine from the front crank shaft balancer bolt, till the torque converter nuts are in the starter opening.

It is easier to go through the starter opening, because the oil pan is so close.

I like a 3/8 breaker bar for torque converters. They are normally thinner and go between the pan and flex plate yet give you the offset you need to get to the nuts.

I use an open end wrench between the converter and the oil pan. I also use a pry bar to move the crank around off the flexplate gear teeth. A wide blade screwdriver works great with the action of the lever you can get. Some nice tools can be bought for turning the crank off the gear teeth too. Might look into the ease of that too. I have never thought to remove the starter but might next time. Makes good sense doing that.

I finally got them off...they were rounding off so need to get some more...they are a lot easier to get to at the dust cover...
