Im new to idi diesels... i have a 93 7.3 4x4 5 speed and i see all these post about timing... what exactly are the benifits and how is it done?... is there risk to getting it done or downfalls?
Timing is important to all engines. The benefits are maximum power and fuel economy. The only downfall to having it done, is to have it done wrong, and end up with timing that is no where near where it should be, and farther away than where you started. These engines develop retarded timing with wear. Getting the timing set brings back the power that slowly goes away. Well, that and maybe a new IP and injectors.
