I am thinking of putting a strait axel up front and get rid of the IFS but im going to keep the 5 lugs, is there a ford strait axel in 5 lug that would do the job ?

D44 from a 76-79 F100/150/Bronco would fit the bill. Nearly a direct bolt in, only fabed part would be trac-bar mount.

you are best looking for 77-79. Only late 76's had discs on it. any earlier than that will be drum brakes, but you can convert to discs if that is all you can find.

If you're that attached to a 5 bolt, convert a 60 to five bolt. It'll save you money in the long run. Don't waste time with a piddly little 44. I see guys break stock 60s with a 4 cyl and 37's pretty regularely, so I wouldnt mess around with a full-size diesel and big tires unless it will never see spirited driving or non-pavement surfaces.

For what you are doing I think a Dana 44 would be okay assuming that the F150 Dana 44's were as strong housing wise as what came in the F250's 77.5-79 :dunno I'm not too familiar with the F150 stuff though. I ran a 78 axle in my 86 for awhile and it was better than the TTB Dana 44 that came in it plus it nearly bolted right in. In the long run you will want a 60 if you plan on 33 or larger tires or anything more abusive than occasional dirt roads or snow days. Also DO NOT waste money trying to upgrade the 44 it will never come close to the 60 regardless of how much you spend. Just my .02.

i think gm 10 bolt came 5 lug and leaf
any fullsized jeep axle will work (wagoneer size)
and the dodge axles
i think you said this will be a road queen right?
if you want custom do a 9 inch with 60 shafts and knuckles and 44 hubs

full size jeep is 6 lug and uses chevy brakes and steering. i used to be a FSJ guy. (had a 79 chero, 80 waggy, and a 84 j10)
all chevy 1/2 was 6 lug if it was 4x4.
