HCE: so you saw and felt a significant difference in turbo spool with the new style compared to the non-gated?

I would say the swap is similiar in seat of pants feel as swapping from the stock pump to the moose pump.
The wastegate jumps to 10 psi instantly at 1500rpm. The nonwastegated needed to be wound out to see the same.
The increase in egt is tough to say as a couple of degrees timing change makes more difference.
Also you could be seeing higher egt but pulling faster.
For clarification the original turbo kit installed was a sidewinder nonwastegated kit.
