Do the brake lights work?

Do the turnsignals work?

Do the license plate lights work?

Do the front orange marker lights work?

The reason I made a list of "what is working?" is to figure out what your problem is. Taillights mean to me the lights that light up when the headlight switch is pulled. This puts power on the brown wire that feeds all those smaller lights all over the whole truck. You said everything else is working. I take that to mean the rear license plate lights work. They are also fed by the same brown wire as the taillights. A single brown wire runs to the rear, hits a splice, and goes to each side and also down to the license plate lights. If the license plate lights are working like you said, just splice into that wire of you can't find the problem back there.

There was an old Ford trick: to listen to the radio in a car without a key, you step on the brakes and the radio magically works. Brakes + Radio wiring all use the same source.
