Will a 92+ tailgate work on a 87-91 bed?

My body parts guy told me that any bed from 1980 to 1996 are the same basic things. The only difference comes when you buy the wheel arch panels to fix the rusty wheel arches. 1980 - 86 had one style, and 1987 - 1996 had the other style. Other than that they all have the same measurements for long box and short box versions.

The 80-86 beds/tailgates have different latches on the bed ends, I would imagine they could be changed to the newer style.

Thanks guys I seen a sweet loong one off I think a 94 at the JY it was one of the ones with the chrome or aluminum panel covering most of the tailgate. I ask because my bed is off an 87.

Yes it will work just fine.
To put a little clarification to something said earlier. There is actually differences in the 80-86 box and the 87-97 box. The body lines are more round on the later ones and they are a tad bit higher. We ran a box off of a 95 on our grandpas 83 for years and years, the body lines were like an inch different.
