I have a 93 f250 7.3 idi with zf5 tranny i noticed that my tach sensor bolt has a lot of oil on top of it and also the wire has seen better days.
My question is can this affect the way my truck runs

No. Not with a ZF-5.

If/when your tach gauge starts shaking or not working right, that's when you might want to replace it... But again, it's an 'optional' thing.

The ONLY time a tach is absolutely necessary is when you have an auto trans called an E4OD. This is because it depends on a signal from this and a few more items. You probably are about ready to loose the tach signal completely.Ebay is usually the least costly place to shop for this. Figure around 60 bucks.

This sure appears to be correct for our tach sender but not seeing it in my hand I wont commit.

I have successfully replaced the o ring under the sensor to stop the leak, no need to replace it if it’s working fine
