Does anyone know if the tach and ABS are somehow tied in together? I've done a few long out of town trips lately and on a couple quick occasions, the tach will drop off briefly and the ABS light will come on.
While driving back from Arizona last Saturday, I had the cruise control on and all of a sudden the cruise dropped off, the tach dropped and the ABS light came on. This only lasted for a second but I had to turn the cruise button back on, I couldnt just hit resume.
I'm trying to figure out if this is an electrical issue, or a problem with the ABS unit. Thanks.

I read somewhere that the ABS sensor in the rear housing was also used as the speed/distance sensor. The tach picks up off the sensor in the timing gear cover close tho the IP I believe.

Lightly wiggle your keyswitch a little bit when it gives you trouble(make sure no traffic is around). If you find the keyswitch position very touchy, you might do well to get a new ignition switch and replace it. It's mounted underneath the dash on top of the steering column.

I just replaced the switch when I had the steering column out a couple months ago but like everything else, its from China, so it may be a pos!

That's true on OBS trucks, but on '91 and earlier trucks, the speedometer is mechanically driven.

As others have pointed out, it might be a key switch issue, or maybe something in the instrument cluster?

Boy your trucks get around!

Yeah, I do a lot of driving. I'll be making a trip up to Utah this next weekend. I think I have an injector in the 89 going bad, either that or its a bad lifter. It's on its original injectors at 150 grand now, so its probably time for new ones.
Guess I'll order a set this week. Cant believe how expensive they've gotten over the past 4 years.

Correct, my speed sensor is in the speedo cable just before the GV

:sly what's wrong with the box of em you gave me? One even has a rare speed tip option! (nozzle broken off) that's gotta be 400 hp easily! May even take care of the possible lifter problem if it dumps enough fuel in as you race up a steep grade!

I didnt know one had a broken tip. That was probably the one that was knocking like hell a few years ago. I turned up my fuel full blast the other day and the tick tick tick got worse, so yeah probably injector issue.
I'm gonna go home and loosen each one for the fun of it and see which one is funky. If I find a bad one, I may borrow one of them spares from you until the new set comes in.
