Am I wrong or aren't there two flasher relays on these trucks?

Find the KEY-ON=HOT wire to the signal-switch where it plugs in at the column.

Find one or the other direction wires; i.e. L-TURN or R-TURN.

With KEY-ON, jumper the power from the HOT to the LOAD, thus bypassing the new switch, and see if anything happens.


I gave up on the wimpy factory signal mess years ago and installed a genuine Signal-Stat NON-cancelling switch like found on the better big trucks.

Turn signal flasher on the front of the fuse panel and hazard flasher on the back.

I didn't replace the hazard flasher.

Hmm, Im having problems with my hazards too. They dont work at all but when I attempt to turn them on they do stop the blinkers from working so Im guessing its a fuse or flasher. I checked the fuse in the cab (very top middle 15amp fuse) and it was fine. Which box is the flasher in? The little box in the the engine bay on the driver side thats beside the large fuse box? Or is it the large fuse box itself?

Both the flasher relays are inside the cab on your fuse panel, the turn signal flasher is the big round silver one on the front, and the hazard flasher is a nothing big round silver relay on the back of the fuse panel, I found it easier to just take the fuse panel off to get the flasher out.

Make sure your batteries are unhooked.

Ummm... Yeah, I have a fuse box in the engine bay. Has probably 20 fuses in it... along with some relays and a diode.

But I guess I was lookin in the wrong spot. WHy do the batteries need to be disconnected?

Oh, my truck doesn't have a box in the engine bay.

And you unhook the batteries for safety, there are exposed connections on the back of the fuse panel.

Oh ok. You must have a pre 94...

I have problems with my Blinkers and flashers too. I only have one brake light and when I turn flashers on the don't blink they just light up. Same thing with Blinkers. You have to turn the switch off and on to make them work

The Hazard switch disables the turn signals. if your having problems with the signals check to see that you hazard switch is off. if your hazards come on but dont flash you need to replace the flasher, there are two circits for the turn signals, one for the front of the truck that dosent have BRAKE light action only signal. and one that passes through the turn signal cancler assembly and the brake light power is routed to the Brake light /turn signal at the rear of the truck unless the left or right signal is activated. later model trucks 94 and newer I think . had Trailer tow pack fuses under the hood that had individual fuses for left and right signal for the trailer plug only. power to the signals on the chassis is one fuse, one fuse for Brakes and one fuse for hazard. one more thing check to see that your tail light assemblys have a good frame ground. I tell all my techs, When in doubt run a new ground first it can't hurt and it might fix the intermitant light problems.

Also, a tail/brake-light bulb can sometimes fail in such a way that it shorts the system.

When this happens, it can give one fits trying to trouble-shoot what is going on.

When this happens the filament for the rear blinkers breaks and gets grounded on the stop lite filament. Now everythime you signal a turn towards the broken side signal lite your E4ODtran will lock and unlock the torque converter. I found this out after I built my fiest engine and test ran th rig. I had a real tuff time figureing out what was wrong with my wire installation after the rebuild. Someone here suggested I check the tail lite bulbs for a burned out filament... Sure engoug I had one. So changed out both rear bulbs and no more issues with the torque converter.... Sure was a tuff but easy fix once I knew what to look for....

I do not have a wiring diagram right in front of me, so some of my line of thinking might be a little off.


I ?think? the HOT side of the turn-signal fuse powers up when the key is ON.

Probable causes of loss of this power is the key-switch mounted on the column could either be bad or have a wire knocked off a terminal.

Not sure on this, but it is also possible that one of the fusible links under the hood could go bad and knock out this power.


That being said, the first thing I would check now is that skinny TAN wire that connects the fuse-block to the parking-lights; that much-too-small wire is notorious for melting itself out of it's insulation and then melting it's way into the adjacent wires, causing all sorts of weird electrical maladies.

To investigate this, un-screw the fuse-block from the floor-board, turn it over, find that TAN wire amongst the big *** of wires that goes in/out of the fuse-block.

Also, for future reference, the "hazard" switch on the column can get dirty from sitting and cause turn signal problems. I have had this problem on junk yard columns and fixed it by turning the hazards on and off a bunch of times.
