Turn signals

I have never had working turn signals, so I bought a new tun signal switch for a tilt, the left and right work but when I put it to center either the right or left signals stays on flashing?

Both front and rear lights are flashing when the stalk is in the center? Or just the rear? Or just the dash indicators?

I turn on the right turn signal put it to center the right turn signals keep flashing but not brightly, it does the same for either left or right, four way flashers work.

That sounds like the switch isn't centering correctly for some reason.
