straight water in cooling system?

on my scout a sprung another leak in the rad, i patched it up, then refilled with water. i only plan on leaving it in maybe a month, or untill the trucks pulls and local shows are over. i don't want to spend the money on coolant because if it leaks out again i don't want to waste the money. will it hurt anything?

Nope... Not a thing. Do run a flush before you refill with the coolant if you see any rusty water. Otherwise run it....

I disabled the cap from building pressure too. It doesn't go above the normal temps with coolant and a good cap. I figured just thought id run it by you guys. Thanks!

Im running straight water, but thats only because i cannot afford antifreeze

Mel that's because I don't have $500 to have one made, and I don't have the money now to send it out to get repaired. Plus carlisle is in 2 weeks. Over the winter I'm gonna have that repaired along with a few other areas in need of attention. Plus I'm trying to get a 392 out of the machine shop for my '74 scout II.

This might be worth a look, Redline Water Wetter has corrosion inhibitors and some other additives for running without anti-freeze.

Thanks, she holds her own, need some lockers and it'll be pretty good. Its hard keeping up with my friends CJs, they fit through trees the full width axles get stuck between! Hahaha;p

I won't run straight H2O except in an emergency. Even in a couple of days, Rust is the issue.

water is actually a better conductor of heat than anti-freeze but it does have some major drawbacks in the winter.

I just poured in 6 gallons of Evans Waterless Coolant in my new 7.3 that I waited 4 months till I could afford $300 for 8 gallons of the stuff.
I would never pour water in any cooling system I own, why pour corrosion, low boiling point, high pressure hose popping, water in a machine that I want to run perfect everyday without having to worry if my cooling system is pumping rust *****'ing up my whole engine?

Will it be ok? !
