Looked at two more (been busy today). One 91 4x4 4 door f350 with an ATS turbo. Noticed the 7.3 had a remanufactured tag on the front. 68k on the Speedo, he says it's 168k. Was cold and started well. E40d trans, shifted well.
Issues were, its ugly, some rust on the rear doors, one of the door handles won't open the door from the inside, passenger window doesn't roll up or down, and the ac pump doesn't engage. It had pressure, but the clutch doesn't engage.
The positives obviously being the turbo, egt gauge works, when I asked about the coolant additives he confirmed be added them recently and knew what they were, unlike all the others the oil was in the safe zone on the dipstick. Says he has owned the truck for 10 plus years. Batteries were two years old. Trailer brake controller seemed to work. Stopped well. Tracked straight and didn't wander. Steering felt tight.
The second was a 92 4x4 extended cab f250. Looked nice, minor fender and cab corner rust. 5 speed transmission. 219k miles. Also a remanned engine.
It looked food, it shifted right, didn't pop out of reverse, decent power(no turbo).
But, his front and rear tires were different sizes, no oil on the dipstick, "what are coolant additives?", no coolant in the sludgy reservoir, just get a bad feeling about it. Doesn't seem he has maintained anything but the look well.
The guy with the ugly 91 wanted $3500, but I said I would only go to $2700 and he said that would be acceptable. What do you guys think?
