Even though you have a bunch of batteries , have you load tested each one individually?

If you have one battery with one bad cell [or more] it may read as having 12.5 volts, until you load test it..

Step by step:
1. Load test each battery in the battery bank. If you have one battery that is not passing load test, it will draw down all the other ones.. A battery bank is only as strong as the weakest battery in the bank.

2. Inspect each connection and cable. All connections must be "Clean, Bright, and Tight"..

3. Check resistance in each cable, individually, before re-installing it.

If all the above check "good" , then look at the starter for defect.

Also, judging from the picture, your cable size is WAY TO SMALL to handle large current draw of the starter.. as another poster said.. size 02 cables.. Larger cables carry more current in DC circuits..

Might be you have way too many connections and the cables are somewhat smallish looking. Why are you choosing to run a ground off the middle battery ground?

ok so I replaced that factory negative terminal just to eliminate it, also cleaned the ground on the frame. I know the cables and terminals are not ideal but it was what I had at the time. I will be ordering some nice terminals that the wire gets soldered into and replace them all in the future.

as I was checking all my other connections I found the nut on the starter terminals were loose. I cleaned all those and used some dielectric grease when putting it all back together. with all that fixed it starts much better and I was having some charging problems witch I think was due to the bad connections.

here are some pictures.

I am curious what AWG size thos wires are?

It would be a good idea to look into using NOLAX as well for connections instead of dielectric grease.

What I see most often with these starting problems are..oil soaked cable ends for ground..bad bad...greenish wires...again bad bad ...temporary bat termjnal ends too small for the cables again..bad...and the biggest izsue I see is undersized cables.

3/0 min for stock batt locations for +
2 x 2/0 for stock batt locationz for stock -

Factory is 2/0 from drivers batt to pass batt then 3/0 to starter amd 2/0 grounds if memory serves me ...not likely but thats what I recall.

Those cables look fantastic other than that gnd...just look undersized but its a guess on photo

I guess my eyes saw 650 where it was indeed 850...see...not only hearing aids but glasses do I need..thanks for the correction on that.

Where are these located it looks like one heck of a nice setup

the cable I put on today is 1/0, the cross over wires are smaller. once I re do it with better terminals I will make the wire all the same size.

here is where I keep them, I had room for three so I put in three.

Get those good plated ends from the parts stores with the set screws. They're pretty awesome and even cheaper in nickel plating on amazon/ebay.

I still have the factory cables in my truck, the only terminal I have (so far) had to replace is the ring terminal on the starter, and it's a 4/0 cable and is the same size from batt to batt to starter, talk about a PITA to find on a sunday LOL
but yes on the 2/0 grounds ;Sweet

Uh ok...different that the 3 or 4 sets here but ok....every one waz a 2-3/0 setup as the 2/0 was used for lesser machimes..the 3/0 portion was ****
