alrite got a 7.3 idi the other day and it started up fine when i got it. Went to start it up 2day and all it does is the glow plug controller clicking. batteries are fine and everything. Will replace gp and controller soon I just wanted to start it up and move 50 ft into my garage. So then I cross the starter selniod and all the starter does it spin fast no engaging should I replace the starter or the seleniod?

If you turn the key and you hear the starter spin but not the engine then the solenoid on the starter that engages the drive is bad. If you get nothing when you turn the key then it could be the solenoid mounts on the passenger fender by the battery.

Dont waste your monet trying to reolace just the solenoid on the starter. On diesel starters, when the solenoid goes, the rest isnt far behind. Bosch wont even make their solenoids available to anyone but rebuilders for most diesel starters becausethey dont want the fuss it causes when folks buy the one and then have the starter crap out a week later and come crying to them

Don't be surprised if you only needed a fender solenoid, maybe a Bendix. The Bendix drive can fail long before the starter motor is having problems and is cheap to replace. That is how I got my stolen truck back, the Bendix quit and the thieves couldn't drive it anymore. A $14 part.
