When I shut down there is a sound kind of like the starter is getting spun by the flywheel just a bit. It could be something else but I don’t have any idea what. Any thoughts?

Record the sound with your video camera.
Upload it onto youtube, send us the link and let us hear it.
I'm sure someone here will know exactly what it is, once they hear it.

That’s a good idea kwcrusader. Thanks. I’m headed out on a run to FL. today and I won’t have time to do that till I get back.

I took off the starter when I got back from Florida and checked it out. The spring on the starter gear is very weak and I can see wear marks on the gear where it was hitting the flywheel when the engine shakes and kicks back during shutdown. I took it to the starter shop and the guy said not only was the spring shot the front bearing and housing is worn out.
