I like it, the chrome is okay but I like the black. I like the idea of having my cab stock (red), my flatbed grill and headlight trim black, and having my windshield trim, door handles, and toolbox handles chrome. If I were at the aesthetic stage of my truck already.

The bright yellow truck actually looks better with the black accents.

On the same note, my 1985 chromed plastic trim is all milky and faded, headlights, above and below grille, and around the windshield.

How can I restore it to better than factory-new; as in, how can I make it look like polished chromed steel instead of cheapie plated plastic ??

there really isn't much you can do. there's LMC truck or I can find ones that aren't busted up. That's about it.

How did you prime coat those parts? That looks like really nice, want to do it to my truck, the 90. I did coat the brush guard with bed liner. Is that black a semi gloss?

Chrome don't get ya home....but black gets ya back!....

I hate....HATE chrome...did I mention how much I hate chrome!...

I do however love black trims and door handles...or monochromatic works for me too...

semi gloss black. washed the parts with TSP and brillo pad scuff up. flat black is a bad idea due to its affinity for holding onto oil stains.
a suggestion for you is to find a Custom series bricknose and pulling the lights and grille. the lights won't have the chrome trim and the grille is silver/grey or flat black.

really good **** for cleaning, not so good for the environment.

Right, TSP is a cleaning agent. It generally comes as a powder and you mix it with water. I've always used it for paint preparation on inside painting. Wash down the walls and ceiling with TSP, get rid of smoke, grease, whatever, residue that builds up on your walls. It's amazing what is there.

We buy it at Home Depot. Any good hardware or paint store will have it.

First off... BRITE Yellow?? Toning it down with black helps some.

TSP is a great grease cleaner and paint wash prep. Just make sure it is well rinsed off.

I do like shiney stuff, but no objections to blacked out either. Depends on what the paint theme is to be. Red and black together makes me want to hurl, but red or black with other contrasting tones are good. I'd do hot pink with lime green wheels before black and red....
