separator plate?

I will be changing my water pump soon, and I was wondering about the separator plate.

Can water or oil leak from the separator plate?

Does the separator plate have a gasket? If so, how hard is it to change the gasket once the pump is removed?

Yes there is a gasket for WP as shown...behind the plate I'm sure there is but I didnt swap it out

I didn't remove my plate. I removed the old gasket with a roloc disc and applied the new gasket between the plate and the WP.

The plate is held to the block by 4 small screws (1 at each corner) and there are gaskets behind it.

I would not remove the plate unless it looks like there's leakage from that seal. Removing the plate would require the crank pulley/harmonic balancer and the injection pump gear cover to be removed - not exactly a trivial undertaking.

The above post is so true. The gasket behind that plate is actually 2 completely different looking gaskets. The are available too. All that stuff will need to be removed to change those gaskets

There's 5 smaller bolts that hold it on, 3 on one side and 2 on the other. I just went through this with my cam install. Napa has a gasket kit that has the two gaskets for the front plate to block, the water pump gasket and the crankshaft seal (which is pressed into the front plate). All above that was said is true as well as the front plate also is the sealing surface for the front of the oil pan. Not worth going after unless you know it's bad.
