sensors on fuel filter head, can they be replaced?

ok i sealed the lines up, now the fuel filter head is leaking! it's coming from the "ovalish" shaped sensor right on top, if i wiggle it with pliers fuel seeps out and it bubbles. is this a replaceable part or should i look for a new filter head, it's out of a '93ish ambulance.

all of mime leak as they get older.
there is someone here who has figured out the right O-ring to replace it. It's not a standard sized one that you can find at the local hardware store. also, the fuel eats up the standard o-rings. give it a day or so, someone will chime in.

I believe there is an oring under there that can be replaced. I had a small leak as well and a new oring did the trick, but I don't remember an oval looking anything. My truck is at my dad's or I'd go look for you.

On the top of the filter head there is a black electrical connection. Under that there is an o ring. Its part number is International 1811053C1. You need to remove the head and remove the fuel heater grid under the head bewteen the fuel filter and the head. Its easy once you have done it.

yeah there was a extra filter head from a pickup but i didn't feel like relocating it and it looked in equivalant conditin, i tried to remove the inner threaded piece that the filter screws onto that wouldn't budge, i'll have to pull the one off on it. and yes it's a black connection on top.

Don't go to Ford to get it as they will try to sell ya the entire fuel heater assembly.

i bought hydraulic o rings from napa, just a few words of warning for those that are impatient- take your time. if you read the article you will understand that the head comes apart in multiple pieces and these are fairly easily broken. i would hate for you to have to price a new head from the dealer

IH could order 5 packs of the o-rings at $3.50 a piece! sooo they'll be my last if i don't find any. thanks icanfixall!

and i actually had a 32mm wrench to fit the filter adapter nut! but my heater plate is different than the one you have pictured redneck. mne is a steel plate with the plug on it, and a wire going to 3 dots. i only see 1 oring, so i'll go to napa and get a filter and oring tomorrow.

interesting it actually had wire inside there, just make sure it doesnt dissamsemble more that you can see and put it back together i guess sorry that wasnt of more help. it worked great for me- i prob would have broke mine without that little article lol.

the article was alot of help, i hade no idea it CAME apart! but i went to napa got a new oring and filter, good to go!

Save yourself the anger of attempting to tell a Nappa parts monkey how to look something up for you. I know all of these people are not bad people but around here they suck. Go to international and tell them the part number I have supplied here. Buy 2 or 3 of them. they are cheap and at around $2.50 each there is no reason to not have a spare...
