Saginaw Pump

Thats the one, just like 71202 was. The threaded part was a different size, and i dont remember for sure if it fit in the hole originally or not. Would have been nice if it was a bolt-on application but i guess i did save 16-22$ on hose

So time for the dumbest question... What's the advantage? Better steering? What makes these pumps superior?

I only ask because I have an econoline engine with one of these on it and I also have a hydro boost set up I plan on putting on my truck. Will this make the hydroboost even better?

From what I have read, the Saginaw pump flows more fluid that the Ford pump. It gives the "Pinky Steering" the 60's and 70's full size cars had. Also, they don't whine like the Ford pump does, they are very quiet. It greatly reduces the effort needed to turn the steering wheel. I know on the E-150 we had, back in the day, you could bang the wheel from lock to lock with just your index finger, as fast as you could move your hand. It was really nice.

Higher pressure (better for hydroboost and bigger tires)

Easier steering, although in my case the steering was already easier until it was hopping/skipping with the failing pump

Quiet even when turning, doesnt sound like a bag of pissed off kittens.



Most people sounded like they wanted these for hydro
