I was wondering if anyone had some input on this problem ive owned my 7.3 now for around four years its running around 117,000 miles about six months ago the truck started having a real nasty sound when turning it off. its like a rough loud clanking sort of noise coming from underneith the truck sounds like around the starter or bottom of motor but ive ivestigated it and cant come up with any thing on my own. the truck has always turned off smooth as could be i cant figure this out but from the sounds of it you know it cant be good. any help would be greatly appreciated ive stumped myself on this one.

Auto or manual transmission? Get under it and have someone shut it off, pinpoint the rattle between engine and or transmission.

Big rigs will make noises like this, it's caused by the clutch rocking back and forth....So as noted above - auto or manual?
