Sadly this timing meter will not work on our idi engines. Its missing the luminosity probe. That part fits in the glow plug hole and sees the lite from the combustion explosion. There is also other parts that you should have to determine what the cetane is on the fuel your burning. I will add pics of what you need for the cetane hydrometer found in another listing. That listing also is missing the lumi probe... Sadly the lumi probes are not made any longer but not all is lost just yet... I have a lumi probe thats not doing me any good and will sell it for $150.00 and free shipping. PM me if interested. This listing shows the hydrometer on the left side of the pic. It has all the pieces needed to learn what the fuel is. Do we really need this... Nope... But its nice to know what you are burning too. Will the next fuel be differant... Probably but by how much is open for discussion too.

Thanks, Gary - I was hoping you would reply. I also appreciate the offer on the lumi probe. I have contacted the seller and explained that this meter will not time my truck without purchasing additonal attachments, and asked for his considertaion on a refund (loess his eBay fees of course). Obviously, this is not really his problem, but since it won't work for me I thought I might as well ask anyway. If I am "stuck" with it, then I may be back in touch with you via PM about the lumi probe. I should have researched this before I pulled the trigger, and I can see now why the seller accepted my lower offer. Oh, well, - at least I didn't buy injectors or an IP without doing my research:D. Thanks to OB, I know Conestoga is the place to go!

Well, I contacted the seller and he has agreed to give me a refund :D since this meter would still require a luminosity probe in order to work on the 7.3 IDI. Just out of curiosity, without the lumi probe, is this meter any good for anything? Gary, thanks again on the offer of the lumi probe, but I guess I won't need it - at least not yet anyway. Well, in spite of my efforts, I apparently learned something today lol. I have been kind of watching for a meter, as I know what the local shop's hourly rates are. I figured the cost of getting my truck timed by them one time will get me part way to purchasing a meter. When I have do pump and injectors in the future and need time it again, I am even further toward that cost.
