So recently I picked up some synthetic 15w40 rotella at clearance price at Walmart. Figured I'd try it for winter temps for easier starts, I was using regular rotella before same weight.
Changed oil and noticed at cold starts with no block heater I'm getting 55psi at high idle (used to be 45), I usually wait for high idle to drop before leaving and at hot idle I'm getting 18-20 where I used to get 10-12, and driving I'm getting 40 ish where I had been getting 32-35 at the most when really wound up.
Anything I should care about? You would think it would be higher with the old non synthetic but it's the same weight. Maybe since my gauge is teed off the factory sender the synthetic is a little thinner and it reaches up to the top of the engine easier where the gauge is at so it's a somewhat false higher reading? Maybe it's just magically what my engine likes and I should stick with it?
The old beast was always a burn one quart almost immediately and then never use anything until it was due for an oil change, well now after 700 miles with the synthetic it's still right on full and hasn't used its usual quart.
Hopefully I just accidentally stumbled upon oil my truck likes, those numbers aren't out of a safe range by any means but it's just strange. Runs and sounds the same, no higher egts or anything..
I know I should just drive it and not worry, but just for curiousness figured I'd post this up..
