Update-

150 miles later, and ZERO signs of leakage. Even the exhaust seems to have sealed up with that permatex magic goo. Spent the afternoon installing a nice keyless entry security system. It needs washed, but it's been raining every afternoon 'round here. It sounds crazy, but we need the rain so bad that I'd rather have a dirty truck for now...

I am in the middle of the same project (well not really since I'm pulled the auto to put in a 5 speed) but figured why not change the rear main since its out right. Any way I have the same exahust leak from where my cross-over pipes enter the turbo and was wondering exactly what sealant you used. After reading your first post about using the sealant, I went to auto zone to buy some but the highest temp they had was 700 and I don't think thats enough for these trucks. Appreciate any help you can offer.

I'll have to get the number when I'm back at work tomorrow. It was given to me by a buddy who builds hot-rods and uses it to seal headers to cylinder heads. It may have just been the ultra-black goo...but I'll double check. I figured that a gasser's EGT's are way hotter than ours, so if it worked for them, it'd work for us.
