Rear disk brakes

Someone wanna dig up some old posts about rear disk brake conversion for our trucks. Also is this sterling axles or Dana axles? I'm just a wondering whats involved

I think they were primarily discussed for the Dana 70 but all what really matters is axle tube diameter.

Here's a site I found a while back while searching for a disc brake swap for the Sterling 10.25 using all Ford parts. It does require some welding but I like the idea of running the Ford dual piston calipers over running a single piston gm style caliper.

I agree. That conversion looks excellent. Maybe it's time for a go at something like that or hydroboost. With hydroboost and rear disks, it may be over kill. But, you shouldn't have trouble stopping with a load.

Yeah if I do brakes I think I would do hydroboost before the disks. With that setup it should be able to stop just about anything .

That's what I like about my 91 F-Super duty. It already has the Hydro-boost and rear disc brakes.

it's not as easy as you would hope.
even the guy in the link had a fair amount of fab work.
the offsets between the drum versus disc rears is significant enough where you will have to mover the mounting collar. the second part is the disc brake rear mount bracket uses 5 bolts instead.

I thought the link was for a sterling 10.25 swap?

iirc the guts are of dana70.
I'm looking at a dana 70 dually axle from a e-series van. moderate amount of fab work. spring perches will have to be moved as well as shock mounts. it's a little narrower from outside dual to outside dual, but I think I can live with it. the bad part is this "axle" is threatening to set me back $1.5k from the local wrecker.
