Rear Brakes

Did my rear brakes again today at school. just did new shoes as the hardware is about 12k miles old.

the pedal is nice and high now and is firm as well, although the braking power is not quite as strong as i was expecting for how firm the pedal is. It is still MUCH more braking power than before.

it seems as though i need a bit more throttle to get the truck up to speed. i know that would indicate dragging shoes but after my drive home from school the drums were not hot at all. i had my teacher look at them and he liked where i had the shoes adjusted. you could hear a SLIGHT drag on the drum when you turned it by hand. all of that indicates the shoe adjustment should be pretty good. so i don't know if i am imagining things or what.

man, brakes are really nice!

when i got to work today i got out and felt the drums and both sides felt about the same temp and i could have left my hand on them until i died of boredom so i don't think i have a dragging brake issue.

Proper shoe to drum distance is about 25 thousands.... Now just try to measure that... Your going to need some micrometers both inside and outside to get that distance... And for what... Just to know it correct.. Just hand adjust the backs till you hear the drag once the shoes are centered in the drum.... Your front rotors and pads will like you again....

Oh come on wouldn't a set of Dial Calipers get ya close enough? Of course i wouldn't be surprised if you do this with micrometers as calipers might just not be precise enough.

Yes... A set of dial cailpers will do just fine as long as they have the inside and outside ability for measurements. And P.S... I feel no insult either. A viener caliper is only going to get you very near the true demention. Thats why they call them viener calipers....
