Quick question about TDC

First off, Merry Christmas to everybody and I hope you enjoy a safe and happy holiday with your people. Now for my question, how do you tell what piston is ATDC, I should take out the glow plug that I can get out and just feel for compression then just follow the firing order around the engine I assume? Thanks and Merry Christmas. Will be going to the Treasure yard tomorrow to get my present, Whatever I can get for about a hundred bucks

Once you find TDC #1, then yes, turn the harmonic balancer 1/4 turn and go to the next cylinder in the firing order. So the balancer will go around twice before you get back to where you started.

The engine rotates clockwise as seen from the front of the truck, and for every 1/4 turn of the engine the next piston will be at TDC.
Cylinders on the right (passenger side) are from front of truck to back 1, 3, 5, 7, and on the left (driver side) are 2, 4, 6, 8, front to back. Firing order is 1,2,7,3,4,5,6,8.

Thanks, cause now I have the wonderful task of changing the gp's. Had a hell of a time with number one when I had to put the lumy probe in, it was ac junk, now I got beru's (only two for now) Hopefully I get lucky with some of the other ones.

Yes... Thats the arrangement of the cylinders but... I'm not able to read the fireing order... Kinda blury. Justa P.S.... The cylinder numbers is stamped into the intake runners at each head port and the fireing order is stamped on the intake manifold too... You might need to clean off some road grime to see these but its there...

I removed #1 gp,laid under truck with 15/16 and breaker bar to turn motor. I heard compression blow off even under the truck. Didn't chance stripping threads on gp so I removed it. Just make sure you clean area good so no junk falls into cylinder
