Quick gp controller question

I'm relocating the gp controller module to the passenger side behind the battery. The black wire from the controller that previously grounded to the intake manifold, can I just ground it to the tray that I'm mounting the GPC to? Or for some reason does it need a engine ground?

i believe mine is grounded to that tray, i don't think it needs engine ground specifically, just ground. But maybe someone who knows for sure will Chime in
