Question with Over Heating and not starting

Guys there is a truck for sale 2000 PSD with 150k miles ...........its not running right says the he drove it and it started to get hot went to his buddies house cuz it was close parked it and now it will fire but it runs like its missing cylinders? Ok guys should I take a chance on this truck? He is asking 6k for the truck crew 4x4? What could be the issue with the truck injectors? electrical? I had a 93 IDI 7.3 so the PSD im not too familiar with YET. HELP GUYS PLEASE I might go take a look at the truck Sunday.

My first thought would be why it overheated and how overheated did he really let it get.

Worst case - it's cylinder head gasket or two, some cylinder head machine work possibly (milling combustion face flat and a valve job while you're there) Then the reassembly.

If there is not a hole in a cylinder liner or injector cup leaking coolant into a cylinder - perhaps the radiator water pump or thermostat are not working properly causing an overheat condition.

The performance / missing issue now would make me a bit nervous - I'd want to make sure if I was looking at an internal engine coolant leak - be it head gaskets or porosity cylinder liner problem before making the purchase.... Do you know anyone with a bore scope?

Is the seller receptive to you or a third party mechanic doing an inspection / estimate on the engine repair?

$6k is only a deal if you have a good idea of how much more it will cost you to put it back on the road again. If it's a cylinder liner problem - unless you know of a source of a good used engine - I'd probably walk away.
