Just got off the phone with SW tech support. They don't make a shorter probe and the guy said I wouldn't get an accurate reading if I space it out with another fitting. He suggested an ISSPRO R650 (
http://www.carid.com/isspro/thermoc...pn-r650.html?gclid=CNm6ju2q5skCFQ8vaQodGTUJ-g ).
This thermocouple connects differently, so I guess I'm going to have to wait for my extension harness to get here before I figure out how it connects to the back of the gauge. The gauge itself is on back order and
should ship out on the 28th...
So first I have to see the connector on the back of the gauge. Then I need to see if there is a way to connect the ISSPRO harness to the Stewart Warner guage. Then I'll need to return ship the SW thermocouple and extension harness to Summit Racing.
I specifically bought the SW Deluxe series gauge since it's the only series that has a pyro, tach, speedo, oil pressure, water temp, voltmeter, air pressure, fuel level and fuel pressure gauges that all match. Plus they don't have wide or protruding bezels and I eventually plan to build custom dashes in both trucks with all matching gauges (sheet metal for Bruiser, wood for the Enterprise).
EDIT: In searching for an extension harness for the ISSPRO thermocouple, I found an article reassuring me that I can just cut the weatherpack connector off one end of the SW extension harness and splice the leads to the leads from the thermocouple. Tightly of course, and with heat shrink. So I'll only have to return the SW thermocouple. Looks like I'll be calling Summit Racing Monday to do that.
