Pump question

I have a stanedyne pump on a john deer 4045, same as an idi pump but set up for a 4 cylinder the other day it blew the the fuel screw access plate off the side of the pump, snapped the screws. It still ran but obviously pumped out fuel like crazy. any ideas on the cause?

Second thought is blown inj. Backfeeding the compression into pump..

Check for a clogged return or housing pressure regulator, sounds like excessive housing pressure... maybe vent wire issue?
