I have been trying to think of a way to incorporate a lock into the tailgate.
What's the point in locking the canopy door when the tailgate can just be opened, right?
I know you can buy a kit made for this tailgate.
I've also figured out a way I could probably make do with just a simple cabinet lock.
But as I was finishing up the canopy yesterday, something else occurred to me. A lot simpler solution.
See, I was sitting here trying to figure out how I would lock that canopy door from the inside, when/if I decide to sleep in the truck...
Should be simple enough to put a couple hooks in there that will hook to the bar, 'inside' the points where they go through the outer brackets. (That way, it is held shut, even if someone turns the handle...)
Then it occurred to me that hooks will do well enough on the tailgate as well.
If I have something in the truck that I want to get to, I am going to open the canopy door, even if the tailgate has to come down. So, if I just put hooks inside there, to hook to the tailgate, then if I need the tailgate down, opening the canopy door to unhook the hooks first, is no extra steps.
I would rather not have to attach an eyebolt to the tailgate. That may get in the way, when the tailgate is down. So maybe I'll just drill a hole in the tailgate, to accommodate the hook. Maybe drill it big enough that I can put a rubber 'firewall grommet' in there, and still be able to get the hook in. We'll see. Shouldn't take much.
May just stick with my cabinet lock idea.
