I'm assembling my heads and very much considering using the positive rubber seals for both intake and exhaust valves instead of the plastic umbrella type my fel pro kit came with for the ex. In my heads from the factory after I tore them down the plastic seals was missing a few pieces and brittle but the rubber seals was fine. I'm assuming they are this way to let the ex have some oil lube the stems, anyone else done this and it work good. Thinking this way no lose pieces floating around after a few thousand miles and no oil smoke from the ex valve seals.

If you positively seal the exhaust valve guides you may end up with ruined guides. To say your exhaust seals came out in pieces tells me the guides were long gone and allowed hot gas to ruin them. I suggest you use the now current design of the snap in umbrella seals. Also note these umbrella seals do not install on the heads but snap up in the spring keeper top.
