So my IDIT motor has been at the Machine shop for about 6 months. Now the guy has finally gotten around to putting the bottom end together after sleeving all 8 cylinders. He let me know that the new Mahle Pistons I gave him to use all have damage in the same area around the oil ring and that he broke a couple oil rings trying to install them. See pics.
He says they must have came like that from the factory, but it’s kind of a hard sell to ask for a refund on pistons I bought 4 months ago when I’m only finding out now they are damaged.
What do you guys think? Did the machine shop booger these up trying to bang them into the cylinders? I’d be really surprised if that’s the case and they managed to do it 5 times in a row.
Or have you all seen pistons come damaged from the factory like this?
