Onboard air...

Anyone with a N/A 6.9 or 7.3 kept the factory air comp and installed another compressor to be used for onboard air? If you have I'm interested in where and how you mounted it, and what you used for the pump.

I am going to mount a york above and off to the side of the power steering pump , the intercooler tubing may need re routed but I need onboard air, If I had a pto box I would run it off the trans.
Reason for the york is it has a crankcase to hold lube oil not a oil vapor lube system like the inlines and rotaries.

I'd be interested in how you do the mount up and running of the belt, what you use for brackets etc... If you have any pictures when you do that let me know. Mines all natural so I don't have the intercooler to mess with. Wish I did in a way, but glad I don't

If things are getting crowded under the hood, a pulley can be sandwiched behind the fan with a belt that drops below and to the side to turn a "line-shaft" that carries power to anywhere behind or in front of the engine.

Better yet is a chain-driven shaft.

Any number of pulleys can be on this line-shaft, anywhere along it's length, to power various goodies.

More than one air-compressor, HUGE alternator, A-C generator, etc., etc., can be powered by this shaft.

If I'm not mistaken, the york compressors are also a little easier to repair of find parts for.

I did adapt a newer model compressor on my truck simply because it was in great shape and bought it cheap. Was still a rotary style though. For some strange reason, my home made bracketry seems to have held for several years now.

My truck came with a york compressor, it makes cold so fast, but it is also really noisy, i can hear my AC on in the cab of the truck. Im guessing that means it was a dealer installed option?

This belongs to a member on another board, I would like to find one of those twin v-belt PS pump pulleys to make this happen, but I haven't been able to find one yet, I haven't looked really hard yet either though.

It looks like a really nice setup.

YEp thats what I am going to do, I have a dual ps pulley on mine ,they came on non ac trucks.

This is how I did mine, York for compressed air, rotary for A/C. Runs off the original pulley for Air & the A/C piggy backs with a small belt. Puts no strain on the Power Steering pully. Has worked great for 4 years now.
