Howdy Boy's, I'am new here to site and I would like to say that this is a very good place to really learn alot about these truck's!!! You really have alot of knowledge people out their!!! OK, Here's the deal I have a 1992 F-250 with the 7.3 turbo (and she really run's fine!) I just bought the truck last year and when lookin her over before i bought her i did not notice that someone had some jb weld speared on the bottom of the oilpan, well i noticed it about a week after i owned the truck. I've been reading this site (and all the other's, but this one is the best!)for a couple month's now and i havent heard any info on the oilpan's. I had a real good diesel mec. tell me that these oilpan's were noted for rustin out. Is their any truth to that?? I just took for granted that the previous owner somehow poked a hole in her. Has anyone else had trouble with the oilpan leakin?

Mine had a small hole in it, but is was from contact, not rust. I welded it right on the truck with my 110 mig.
I have seen several new ones on ebay, usually around $120 or so, but someone on here probably has one they would make you a much better deal on!

As long as it doesn't leak oil (or TOO much oil) don't worry about it. Changing the pan is a pretty involved ordeal.
I once had a snow plow truck (351w), I drained the oil and cleaned off the outside of the pan with brake clean, then smeared RTV over most of the pan that I could reach. I ran it like that all winter and sold the truck the same way.... You don't have to stop the leaks, just get them to slow down enough that you can keep oil in them!!

It's spent most of its life in Texas of all places and even my saltbelt trucks don't come close to being as rusty.

Why not drain the oil then get one of those fiberglass body repair kits. Use the fiberglass mixture and cloth to cover the leak after a good cleaning of the pan.
It's how my gas tank is fixed in my Caddy after I put a big gash in it from a ratchet strap hook when I was towing it on my tilt bed car trailer.

Welcome to the site. As you've already noticed, this is the best place you'll find for info on your truck, maintenance items, modifications, and all around good natured bantor.
One thing that will help us help you better in the future is to fill out your signature with as much info about your truck(s) as possible so that we can eliminate unecessary questions in the future. Also fill out where you're located in case there is someone close by that can help you out. We even have a pretty good informal parts supply system if we know where you're at. Stay tuned and someone may come up with an oilpan for you. A lot of us just want to help out for the cost of shipping.
I agree with the others about your oilpan. If it's not leaking, don't mess with it. That's a pretty involved job. Even with a new pan, if you don't get it absolutely clean and sealed correctly, it may leak more after you "fix" it than it did before. Of course if there is another reason to tear into that area, then fix it. If you do tear into it, there's mixed opinions on whether to use an oilpan gasket or not. It came with one, but they eventually leak. I suggest using the thick gooey grey crap from Ford that is recommended for the PS oilpans. Have to be ready and quick because it has a limited work time.

lazy, lazy, lazy i and others i know have succesfully used JB weld to fix pans with some minor leaks while in the vehicle. just make sure you clean the area real well with some laquer or something before you slather that stuff on.
i have welded some pans up to but i would be leary of doing that in the vehicle. when i did them while they were out with my mig the oil residue blistered and burned up inside the pan. if i couldent clean that out i would have to trust the filter to get it before the bearings.

That thing needs to get to the media blaster fast......If it isn't already too late. There's more rust on that oil pan than there is on all 3 of my trucks, my trailer, my Kubota and my 3-1/2 John Deere garden tractors. Oh to live south of the Mason Dixon......er rust belt line

Waaaay to late fer OJ. I don't understand it either. The '92, '97, and '02 have spent all their winters here drivin' in the liquid hell pennDOT puts down and barely any surface rust. (although we pressure wash after each snow run). BUUTTTT, the '88 spent 'till '99 in Texas and purdy soon will be a rust smudge in the street. (but I bet it still will run
) I'm figurin' it sat in salt water at some point. Even the transfer case aluminum is kinda funny lookin'.
