Drove my truck home today which was about 12 miles. Got home and smelt oil. Popped the hood and had oil all over the engine bay and the dip stick looked like this. Truck drove fine the whole ride home.

No it did not seem to. It looked like it was blowing the oil out the base of the dipstick where it goes into the block.

It looks like there is some water in the end or like jason1377 said possibly mud when you cleaned the dipstick off and reinsert it does the level read full or overfull? doesit smells of fuel like theWespaul asked? And my question is where is your water level at? If it is over full and smells of fuel your lift pump diagram is torn pumping fuel in the crank case if the oil is full and milky check water and it's possibly oil cooler letting oil and water mix and if your cdr is not working or stuck closed the pressures in the crank case are to high blowing oil and pressure through the path of least resistance

No it is not mud. I’m trying to figure out why the oil would look like that. The truck is an 86. Engine is not original to this truck. It’s a 7.3 that was NA but has the Hypermax turbo kit.

The coolant in the radiator is clean with no milky look to it at all. The radiator cap is clean as well.

The truck also never showed it getting hot on the way home either. It stayed where it normally does on the temp gauge.

That's the ole coolant/oil milkshake, if I've ever seen any.
agreed
looks like a blown head gasket or oil cooler.
I'll second the head gasket before the oil cooler. There's usually more pressure (except at idle) in the oil system than in the cooling system. You don't have to have a lot of coolant in your oil for it to look like this. Think of how many time each portion of oil (a quart for example) gets circulated through your oil system in a 12 mile drives. LOTS. It will get mixed pretty well. Another reason to suspect a head gasket is the fact that there was oil "all over the engine bay". Between this and the fact that there's "milkshake" on top of the part that seals the tube tells me that the dipstick was probably pushed up some and that there was extra pressure in the crankcase. The extra pressure could certainly come from a head gasket. Either that or it was very foamy in the crankcase which could cause the foam to be pushed out of the dipstick tube by the rotation of the crankshaft.

Went out and checked the oil today and it’s normal looking. Normal color and does not look like a milkshake anymore. I’m still going to change the oil in it. What oil do you guys recommend. The truck gets parked through the winter and doesn’t get many miles on it during the summer.
