Don't trust the factory gauge they are useless.

Get a real gauge instead. Anything in my opinion is better than the factory gauge.

I had my factory oil pressure sender go out right after an oil change to.

The factory pressure SWITCH (key word here switch) will close at 7psi so if you have 50psi it will deflect the gauge the same distance as will 7psi. In order to really know what pressure you are seeing you have install an aftermarket real gauge. But then you have another gauge that will have to mounted somewhere in the cab. Which can be cool if you are going for that look. On this truck I'm going for sleek - no gauges other than the factory.

An oil pressure SENDER from a 79 with gauge will work really nice if you jumper the resistor on the back of the dash cluster. I did this when I had the 460 in and it worked great.

i Tee's from the sender on the top back of the block for the oil pressure and used a plug near the top of the water pump for the temp.

You can actually go up to an 86' model year. The 83-86 diesels had senders not switches. The 87 and up clusters need the resistor jumped to make them work then.
