anyone out there have any ideas where to start looking for ways to increase oil pressure on a 93 7.3 turbo? mine has about 70k km's on a rebuilt motor and only has 20 psi I taped into the port where the factory sender came off the turbo.

Yes but... Its really deep to get at. The rear oil cooler header has the pressure regulation springs and plunger in it. It can't be repaired but Ford sells it for about $265.00. Now if you want to really get into it just remove the rear header. They when thats done you will see a staked piston in the gasket side of this header. There is not much aluminum gasket material around it so be really careful with a Dremel tool and grind out the staking points. Then everything just slides out. You will want to remember which way all the pistons, spring and port came apart. Look carefully at the spring. If it is worn from all the sliding it has done its best to buy the new header. I have not been able to find this spring anywhere and I really have tried too. If its ok now you need to shim it up some. At this point I need to tell you I have not tested the amount of shim but I feel around 30 to 60 thousands will be enough. Thats about the thickness of a stainless steel washer. They are kinda hard to grind but can be done. These motors are preset to run around 45 lbs of oil pressure even though the factory manuals state 40 to 70 psi at 3000 rpm. I have never seen anything like that and several members that have rebuilt their motors say the same. This shimming will not do anything for the low idle oil pressure. Only the high side. The psd oil cooler headers have a similar setup but they appear to be able to work on theirs because it is held inplace with a snap ring. Maybe that spring will work for us, I just have not checked it out yet. This is plenty of work getting it in and out and really lots of time to see it your pressure comes up. Any shimming will bring up the high side pressure. Just don't go overboard cause "things" will be hurt from to high on the oil pressure. These oil pumps will circulate 18.2 gallons per minute.
thanks everyone for the good advice after a morning of retihgtening bolts and looking for leaks I checked my gauge and found that I had run the tube to far into the oil pressure gauge. After trimming 1/4 '' off and reinstalling my pressure now reads 40 psi. I guess it shows my inexperiance!! thanks again, you know that I will keep logging on to learn more good tips for my truck

I will tell you this, my truck holds 70lb's @ 3000 rpm's, now at idle my pressure is 20lb's.

I do know mine for sure pumps enough oil to slobber & dribble & sling oil all over itself, underneath, & all the windshields of the cars following too close behind
It's amazing how I've gotten to not worry about some things like I used to....older & busier I get & too many fires to put out & not enough of me to go around....
ICAN, so this is how to shim the By-pass to raise oil pressure?? Good info!!
I think I'll look over my spare oil cooler in next few days before I get busy & forget....the spare one that needs rebuilding....the one I was gonna rebuild 2-3 yr ago.
If I remember, you were the one that found & bought that really good IDI service manual from IH, or somewhere last fall as I recall, weren't you?? If I recall along about that time I cked at my local IH parts place & could order it for about $40-$50 or so....I don't remember the manual part#, but still plan to get myself one someday....just got really busy lately.
Lucky, When I first dropped my new rebuilt Hot Run IDI in my rig it ran about 65# hot around 2500RPM & in hi20's or 30's idling IIRC.
Now it do about 45#hot & about 15# or so idling.
