oil leak?

I notice I am leaking small amounts of oil where I think its coming from is one of two bolts that are just below the timing gear housing going in towards the pump they have washers and look to be 9/16, this is looking forwards towards the truck. What are these bolts? the one on the left is the only one that's wet can this leak be fixed or the bolt be removed and sealed some how with out disturbing bigger things.? An to clear a vague description up I am not talking about the lemon cover.

Bolts or nuts??? Timing gear cover seems unlikely to have bolts this size. So is this a nut or bolt with a hex that is 9/16...A pic sure would help me and probably everyone else.

Some of those bolts need sealant because there is oil on the other side of the cover. Picture would let someone confirm.

I was gonna say, I don't remember a 9/16 bolt anywhere on the engine, and ive had a few completely apart lol

Most of the bolts in the front of the engine are either 3/8 (9/16 head) or 5/16 (1/2 head). Depends on where it is as to why it's leaking.

So pictures are worth a thousand words.

Thanks so much for the great clear pics. Those 2 bolts and the 2 at the bottom of the water pump goes thru that timing gear cover plate. They need to have some type of thread sealant on them or they leak oil. Best to clean the threads on the bolts and the plate. Spray some brakclean into the holes but do not use up a can of it. Remember this gets in the oil. Permatex aviation cement will do fine. Permatex ultra copper plus will work if its clean.

That's what I used.

The top two bolts just thread into captured nuts on the back of the front cover.

No block there. These are the ones you have to watch the length of if you swap water pumps. If too long they will get into the timing gear.

Alright sounds good ill clean it up and thread it back in, any torque specs on these water pump bolts?.

Yes but I don't remember off hand what it was. It was the standard 3/8 bolt torque spec in the manual. Maybe 36 ft lb? Don't hold me to that though.

Be a good idea to use a cotton swab or something to clean the oil out of the hole so the sealant will work. Don't spray anything in the hole because it goes straight into the crank case.
